Basin Highlights
Methane Cloud Spotted in Texas Shale Basin Near Gas Pipelines
A geoanalytics firm named Kayrros SAS runs analyses on satellite data to help groups such as businesses and governments make more informed decisions. They recently spotted a plume of what was determined to be methane, over pipeline infrastructure run by Energy Transfer. It was also near multiple wells in an active part of the Eagle Ford basin. Energy Transfer was unresponsive to emails about the methane plume and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality responded that it was unaware of a plume and that none had been reported. It appears there will be no further investigation by anyone despite the huge release of methane into the atmosphere.
New wells going up in Bee County following rising oil, gas prices
Increased prices at the pump have a direct relationship to the cost of a barrel of oil. Drillers in Texas are taking advantage of the price of oil by exploring and drilling for more oil. Bee County Commissioner Dennis DeWitt in southern Texas commented “We are in the process now of a mini-lease boom if you will here in Bee County.” It’s not only small operators, ConocoPhillips drilled a new well in the Eagle Ford too. Many counties in the area are looking forward to increased mineral and oil revenues on the back of high oil prices, although they are staying cautiously optimistic in such a volatile market.
