The Major County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of an oilfield laborer working about 130 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Jerry Pollard of El Reno, Oklahoma, was pulled into a cable winch drum at the rig owned by Stride Energy LLC while working for Orco Service LLC. Operations on the rig have been shut down while the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s investigated the incident that has meanwhile been ruled an accident. The incident is a reminder to those in the industry of how important safety is.
Oil spill shuts down city park
The morning of the 5th drilling fluid spill began to spill into a city park getting into nearby ponds. The city of Cyril woke up to a park blocked off by cones as the spill is being investigated and cleaned-up. Nearby Keechi trails were also affected and were blocked off while teams were busy cleaning up the mess. The spill came from the Stellar drilling plant, where foul play is believed to have taken place. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission reported that Stellar claims a person cut their chain link fence and opened valves causing over 5900 barrels to be released. The local police department has yet to release an official statement.
